This 1772 Pennsylvania note was engraved by James Smither and printed by Hall and Sellers on paper containing blue thread and mica flake. The front has the state arms and pillar style borders. The reverse features an attractive nature print and ornamental border design with “To Counterfeit is DEATH” at the top. This 40 Shilling note was the highest denomination of the issue and is uniquely printed in red and black ink on the face. Gorgeous and unique look. Additionally, the engravers initials are engraved in the top border “J. SMITHER SCULP”. Incredibly scarce note, of 5,000 originally printed, only 24 are known to exist today. This is the first example of this note we have offered. High eye appeal well deserving of the green sticker from GCC.
