The purpose of this April 10, 1775 issue was to fund the construction of jails and correctional facilities. The face is similar to Franklin’s 1759 Pennsylvania notes and the reverse uniquely features the Walnut Street Workhouse also known as the city jail of Philadelphia. Printed in beautiful red and black ink by Hall and Sellers on paper with blue thread and mica flake. This 50 Shilling bill was the lowest denomination of the series. Only 1,667 originally printed. Gorgeous problem free example with crisp bright paper, attractive bi-colored ink, and strong embossing.
