The purpose of this April 10, 1775 issue was to fund the construction of jails and correctional facilities. The face is similar to Franklin’s 1759 Pennsylvania notes and the reverse features the Walnut Street Workhouse also known as the city jail of Philadelphia. Printed in red and black ink by Hall and Sellers on paper with blue thread and mica flake. This 5 Pound bill was the highest denomination of the series. Only 1,666 originally printed. Absolutely gorgeous near uncirculated example with light crisp paper and bright ink.
