The bills of this issue were passed for the purpose of supporting the army. This note was printed by John Dunlap. The majority of notes from this series were printed in only black ink, but these red and black notes were introduced to fulfill the remaining balance for this issue. This 4 Pound bill was the largest denomination of the series and has one signature in red and one in black ink. Very nice example with light paper and immaculate detail in the red ink borders and emblem.
