Rhode Island Colonial Note Fr#RI-214 November 6, 1775 10s PMG 25 *7 Known*
The November 6, 1775 Rhode Island issue was printed on thin paper by John Carter. This note has a minimalistic typeset design with an emblem of an anchor encircled by the latin motto “IN TE DOMINE SPERAMUS” (In you, Lord, we trust). There is also a neat fish on the boarder above the serial number. This issue is generally scarce in every denomination. Higher denominations, such as this note featured a printed back where lower denominations had a blank back. The reverse of this bill has layers of detailed ornamental borders. Incredibly scarce, of the 5,000 10 Shilling bills originally printed, only 7 are known to exist today. Lovely example near the top of the population report with strong signatures and high eye appeal for the grade. Newman’s 5th edition lists this note for $2250 in VF.
