Rhode Island Colonial Note Fr#RI-221 January 15, 1776 2s PCGS 2 *6 Known*
The January 15, 1776 Rhode Island issue was printed on thin paper by John Carter. This note has a minimalistic typeset design with an emblem of an anchor encircled by the latin motto “IN TE DOMINE SPERAMUS” (In you, Lord, we trust). There is also a fish on the border above the serial number. This issue is generally very scarce in every denomination, especially in lower denominations such as this 2 Shilling bill. This was the fourth smallest denomination of the series. Very desirable and tough to find Rhode Island note from 1776. Out of 5,000 originally printed, only 6 examples are known to survive today. Very affordable example with a neat contemporary sew job.
