Comments: “Pieces Missing, Backed, Sewn Together”
The January 15, 1776 Rhode Island issue was printed on thin paper by John Carter. This note has a minimalistic typeset design with an emblem of an anchor encircled by the latin motto “IN TE DOMINE SPERAMUS” (In you, Lord, we trust). This issue is generally very scarce in every denomination. Very desirable and tough to find Rhode Island note rom 1776. Out of 5,000 2 Shilling notes originally printed, only 6 are known to survive today. Neat contemporary sewing at the center showing the lengths colonists went to keep these bills in circulation.
