The January 15, 1776 Rhode Island issue was printed on thin paper by John Carter. This note has a minimalistic typeset design with an emblem of an anchor encircled by the latin motto “IN TE DOMINE SPERAMUS” (In you, Lord, we trust). There is also a fish on the border above the serial number. This issue is generally very scarce in every denomination. Very desirable and tough to find Rhode Island note rom 1776. Out of 6,000 4 Shilling notes originally printed, only 11 are known to survive today. There is an interesting annotation on the back relating to counterfeiting "This is a good Bill".
