Rhode Island Colonial Note Fr#RI-227 January 15, 1776 30s PMG F-12 *5 Known*

$595.00

The January 15, 1776 Rhode Island issue was printed on thin paper by John Carter. This note has a minimalistic typeset design with an emblem of an anchor encircled by the Latin motto “IN TE DOMINE SPERAMUS” (In you, Lord, we trust). There is also a fish on the border above the serial number. The reverse features detailed multilayered ornamental borders. This issue is generally very scarce in every denomination. Higher denominations such as this 30 Shillings bill had a printed back. Very desirable and tough to find Rhode Island note from 1776, key to completing a set. Incredibly rare, of 6,000 originally printed, only 5 examples are known to survive today. Lovely example with no pieces missing like usually seen and nice signatures remaining. Newman 5th edition lists this note for $1500 in F. A high caliber addition to any colonial collection or 1776 set.
