Rhode Island Colonial Note Fr#RI-295 May, 1786 5s PMG 64 EPQ *Stunning*
This 1786 late issue Rhode Island note was printed by Southwick and Barber and features a typeset design with an elaborate boarder and the Rhode Island State Arms on the left center. Higher denominations such as this 5 Shilling note have an elaborately printed back stating “Death to Counterfeit”. This issue was riddled with depreciation, by 1789 these notes only carried 10% of their original value. Consequently, over 96% of this issue was burned by the state between 1793 and 1803. Gorgeous and crisp uncirculated note with huge margins. Fantastic note for the price, I would not be surprised to see this example in a 65 or 66 EPQ holder someday.
