Rhode Island Colonial Note Fr#RI-301 May, 1786 3 Pounds PCGS 58 PPQ *Exceptional*
This 1786 late issue Rhode Island note was printed by Southwick & Barber and features a typeset design with elaborate borders. The Rhode Island State Arms and birds can be seen on the front. Higher denominations such as this 3 Pound note have an elaborate printed reverse with beautiful ornaments. This issue was riddled with depreciation, by 1789 these notes only carried 10% of their original value. Consequently, over 96% of this issue was burned by the state between 1793 and 1803. The 3 Pound note was the highest denomination of the issue. Absolutely gorgeous example with crisp light paper and bold ink. Well deserving of the elusive PPQ designation from PCGS.
Signers: N. Knight, Samuel Allen, Elijah Cobb
