The June 1, 1775 issue was authorized by the Provincial Congress of Charleston, SC on June 14, 1775. This large size 5 Pound note features an emblem with a bundle of 12 arrows representing the united colonies and the latin motto “AUSPICIUM SALUTIS” (An auspice of well-being). 20,000 5 Pound notes were originally printed on thin weak paper, and only 14 are known to exist today. Scarcer than the higher denominations of this issue and fantastic eye appeal with incredibly bold ink.
