This large-size South Carolina note was issues by the Commons House of Assembly. This bill has a hand written denomination of fifty pounds and shares the same engraved back as the high denomination notes from the June 1, 1775 issue. The elaborate reverse contains the motto “FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD”. There are 6 signers of this note and it is addressed to John Rutledge. Rutledge was an influential Founding Father, the first President of South Carolina, and was appointed Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court by George Washington. Very hard to find piece with only 6 known to survive today.
