This high denomination 25 Pound bill from this 1776 South Carolina issue was printed by Peter Timothy black ink. Larger denominations such as this note were printed with engraved plates, were larger in size with a unique seal at the bottom and elaborate borders. This note features a seal of a flourishing and fallen tree encircled by the Latin motto “MELIOREM LAPSA LOCAVIT” (Having fallen it found a better place). Of the 5,200 originally printed, only 24 are known to exist today. Incredibly neat and tough to find 1776 note. Pleasing appearance for the grade.
