The bills of the October 19, 1776 South Carolina issue were printed on thick brown paper and were exchangeable for Spanish milled dollars. The reverse of this $6 note was printed with type set and the front with engraved plates. An emblem featuring wind and waves encircled my the latin motto “TURBAT SED EXTOLLIT” (It disturbs but it elevates) can be seen on the front. Elaborate boarders with flowers and ornaments on the front and back. Only 2,500 $6 bills were originally printed from this issue with 18 known to survive today. Great eye appeal and grade for the issue.
