This South Carolina note was printed by Peter Timothy in Charleston on thick paper. The emblems and borders were engraved in wood. This $3 note features a neat emblem of the Oracle at Delphi encircled by the latin motto “FATA VIAM INVENIENT” (The fates will find a way). The reverse features ornamental borders along with “DEATH to Counterfeit”. Circulating notes such as this are far scarcer than remainders and demand a large premium. Lovely XF example of this popular 1776 note with attractive paper color and rich black ink.
