South Carolina Colonial Note Fr#SC-140 December 23, 1776 $6 PMG VF-25 GCC Green *Camel*

$595.00

This South Carolina note was printed by Peter Timothy in Charleston on thick paper. The emblems and borders were engraved in wood. This $6 note features a neat emblem of a camel encircled by the latin motto “NEC ONUS NEC META GRAVABIT” (Neither burden nor danger will force me down). The reverse features ornamental borders along with “DEATH to Counterfeit”. With 3 signatures present and a serial number I believe PMG is wrong in calling this example a remainder. Circulating examples are far scarcer than remainders. Lovely VF example with clean paper and exceptional eye appeal. Well deserving of the green sticker from GCC.

Signers: George Cooke, Nathaniel Russell, William Greenwood
