This South Carolina note was printed by Peter Timothy in Charleston on thick paper. The emblems and borders were engraved in wood. This $8 note features a neat emblem of a sailing ship encircled by the Latin motto “MULTORUM SPES” (The hope of many). The reverse features ornamental borders along with “DEATH to Counterfeit”. There is a chance this note is not a remainder due to the circulation and 3 signatures, it appears there was a serial number present but it has faded. Nice paper tone with bold ink throughout on this much tougher 1776 note.
Signers: George Cooke, Nathaniel Russell, William Greenwood
