Sold Out

This February 8, 1779 $40 note was elaborately engraved by Thomas Coram of Charleston. On the front, a figure and the latin motto “MINIME VIOLANDA FIDES” (Trust by no means is to be violated) can be seen on the bottom left, although the ink is weak in this corner. The reverse of this note features an incredibly beautiful design of a an angel blowing a trumpet and holding a book titled Annals of America. Nice signatures on the front with a very bold and striking reverse. This $40 note was the smallest denomination of the issue and is not easy to find. There were only 2,000 originally printed and 23 known to exist today. Tough to find in this grade.

Signers: William Morgan, Edward Trescot, Philip Prioleau
