This February 8, 1779 $70 note was elaborately engraved by Thomas Coram of Charleston. On the front, the latin motto “PROVIDENTIA NOS TRIS PRESIDEAT” (Let foresight guide us) can be seen on the bottom left. The reverse of this note depicts a grand design of Atlas holding a large boulder over his head. Thomas Coram’s signature can be seen at the base of Atlas next to the denomination. Very nice example with light paper, bold printing, and attractive eye appeal.
