This February 8, 1779 $60 note was elaborately engraved by Thomas Coram of Charleston. On the front, a figure holding a cornucopia and the Latin motto “MUTUA DEFENSIO TUTISSIMA” (Mutual defense is the safest) can be seen on the bottom left. The reverse of this note features a beautiful design of a lyre, horns, and flags. Very attractive example despite the minor restorations from this popular issue with rich ink and an overall clean appearance for the grade.
