South Carolina Colonial Note Fr#SC-158 February 8, 1779 $90 PCGS 50 *Hercules & Lion*

$0.00
Sold Out

This February 8, 1779 $90 note was elaborately engraved by Thomas Coram of Charleston. On the front, a soldier and the Latin motto “ARMISA CONCURRITE CAMPO” (Assemble the field of arms) can be seen on the bottom left. The reverse of this note features an incredible classical design of Hercules strangling a lion. Nice AU example with pleasing paper color and bold ink. The colonists made an error in aligning the reverse of this note during the printing process resulting in a headless Hercules. Very affordable example for the grade.

*Note: The PCGS label is not in pristine condition, please see photos.

Signers: John Scott, Plowden Weston, Charles Atkins
