This February 8, 1779 $100 note was elaborately engraved by Thomas Coram of Charleston. On the front, Athena and the Latin motto “GLORIAE FUNDAMENTUM FORTITUDO” (Bravery is the foundation of glory) can be seen on the bottom left. There is also a beautifully engraved left border with cornacopia and bottom border with flowers. The reverse of this note features a palmetto tree, drums, and flags. This $100 bill was the highest denomination of the series. Incredibly scarce with only 3,000 originally printed and 23 known to survive today.
