The May 4, 1778 Virginia notes with printed dates, such as this one, had newly engraved border cuts and state insignia compared to the May 4, 1778 hand written date issue. Beneath the bold state insignia is the Latin motto “SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS” (Ever thus to tyrants). This note was printed on course paper by A. Purdie or Clarkson & Davis. Incredibly scarce low denomination bill with only 3 examples known to survive today. This low survivability is likely due to higher frequency of use on small change notes. Fantastic legibility for the grade.
