The May 4, 1778 Virginia notes with printed dates had newly engraved boarder cuts and state insignia compared to the May 4, 1778 hand written date issue. Beneath the state insignia is the Latin motto “SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS” (Ever thus to tyrants) can be seen. This note was printed on thick rag paper by A. Purdie or Clarkson & Davis.
