Comments: “Splits, Tears, Repaired”
Notes from the October 5, 1778 Virginia issue are generally scarce. This note was printed on very thin paper by Alexander Purdie and Clarkson & David. The $50 and $100 bills from this issue are much larger in size compared to the lower denominations and feature typeset design with ornate borders rather than the state seal. Pleasing example for the grade with bold ink and attractive paper color. Incredibly low survivability likely due to the thin paper. Of the 9,597 originally printed, only 15 are known to survive today.
