Virginia Colonial Note Fr#VA-208 March 1, 1781 $500 PMG F-15 *High Denomination*

$265.00

The bills of the March 1, 1781 Virginia issue were printed on both thin and thick laid paper. This example is printed on thick paper by John Dunlap. Deliberate misspellings were common in this issue as secret anti-counterfeiting marks. The secret mark on this note is “OIVE” instead of “FIVE” on the top border denomination. This high denomination $500 bill features elaborate ornamental borders and a blank reverse. Relatively scarce, of the 18,249 originally printed, only 30 are known to exist today. Neat ultra high denomination for a colonial.
