The bills of the March 1, 1781 Virginia issue were printed on both thin and thick laid paper. This example is printed on thin paper and therefor faced incredibly low survivability. Featuring a typeset design and ornamental borders. Deliberate misspellings were common in this issue as secret anti-counterfeiting marks. The secret mark on this high denomination $750 bill is “D” missing from the end of “Pounds” on the left edge, seen on the note as “Pouns”. Faces up well despite the ink burn with clean paper. Extremely scarce note, of 18,249 originally printed only 2 thin paper examples are known to exist today.
