The bills of the March 1, 1781 Virginia issue were printed on both thin and thick laid paper. This example is printed on thick paper by John Dunlap. Deliberate misspellings were common in this issue as secret anti-counterfeiting marks. This impressive $1000 bill features elaborate borders and was the highest denomination of the series. Incredibly scarce with only 10 known to survive today out of 18,249 originally printed.
