Sold Out

The James River Bank was a private bank, created to counteract immense counterfeiting of Virginia Treasury notes. The Crown disapproved of this private bank, but it was passed by the Virginia Assembly. This September 1, 1775 issue repurposed extra paper from the original April 1, 1773 James River Bank issue. This was because paper was exhausted from the July 17, 1775 issue. This 8 Pound half note was printed on incredibly thin paper with engraved lines for filling in the written information. Although this is only half a note, it can still be distinguished and is still incredibly rare with only 13 known to exist today.
