The James River Bank was a private bank, created to counteract immense counterfeiting of Virginia Treasury notes. The Crown disapproved of this private bank, but it was passed by the Virginia Assembly. This September 1, 1775 issue repurposed extra paper from the original April 1, 1773 James River Bank issue. This was because paper was exhausted from the July 17, 1775 issue. This large size note features a vignette of a beautiful sailing ship on the upper left.
